You’ll need to connect the VCC pin to a +3.3V supply, and the GND pin to ground. Because of the way the pins are laid out, you can’t just plug the module directly into a breadboard, you’re going to have to break out some jumper cables. Now unfortunately while the ESP-01 module has a standard spaced header block on one end, the pin out is rather inconvenient when dealing with breadboards. Wiring up the ESP8266 Module The pin out for the header block of the ESP-01 moduleĪs I mentioned before, probably the most common breakout board you’ll come across for the ESP8266 is the ESP-01. However, despite it being manageable, having a whole separate environment installed isn’t actually necessary. The custom binary will live quite happily alongside your existing stock Arduino development environment - in fact, as well as the ESP8266 build, I think I’ve got six or seven other versions of the environment installed at the moment, with version numbers ranging from 1.0.x up to to latest 1.6.x build. I’m on a Mac, and at that point it comes down to downloading the pre-built binary release from GitHub. Installation of the custom build of the Arduino IDE really couldn’t be simpler. The base game is free to download from the DCS website (recommended), but you can also get it on Steam, and it is compatible with most PC VR headsets. There are currently 7 large, details maps ranging from Nevada to the Persian Gulf, providing plenty of variety in the scenery, and a large selection of planes and helicopters ranging from WW2-era up to modern aircraft still in service today. Whilst Microsoft Flight Simulator is my favorite VR flight simulator for civilian planes, DCS World is far superior when it comes to military VR flight simulation and VR helicopter simulation. The attention to detail in each aircraft and the accuracy of the flight models are astonishing, and the graphics and sound combine to create an ultra-realistic VR flight simulator. ![]() DCS WorldĭCS World is a combat flight simulator developed by Eagle Dynamics that allows you to fly a wide range of military planes and helicopters that are meticulously modeled to be as close to their real-life counterparts as possible. You will need a powerful computer to run Microsoft Flight Simulator VR at a decent frame rate, but if your computer is up to the task, this is a fantastic option. Overall, Microsoft Flight Simulator is an incredible game, raising the bar for VR Flight Simulators in almost every way. There is also a thriving in-game marketplace where you can purchase additional planes, airports, liveries, and more, although the cost of these will soon mount up if you want to make a lot of purchases. The range of planes available to fly in the Game Of The Year edition is quite reasonable, so you can try flying an Airbus A320, Boeing 747, F/A-18 Super Hornet, a Cessna 152, or anything in between. If you want to use a gamepad to fly a plane with arcade-style controls, you can do this with ease, but if you are a hardcore flight sim enthusiast, you are also extremely well-catered for. What I particularly love about this version of Microsoft Flight Simulator is that it caters to the entire range of players. VR controller support is still average at best, and there is no support for hand tracking, which would be a fantastic addition to have in a future update. The VR implementation isn’t without bugs, but I have seen things improve steadily since it was initially released. I absolutely love tinkering around with the different weather settings, challenging myself to make difficult landings in adverse weather conditions, or picking a clear, sunny day to enjoy the sights of some incredible landmarks and cities. You can completely customize the weather and choose what time of day to fly at, creating conditions that are as challenging as you like. Microsoft Flight Simulator has now implemented full VR support, which works well on every headset I have tried it with, although you are highly likely to need to turn down some graphics settings to keep the framerate at a playable level. It uses real-world map data, photogrammetry, and satellite imagery to allow you to fly anywhere in the world, and the number of hand-crafted airports, aircraft, and landmarks continues to increase with every update. It is visually stunning, and the attention to detail in the planes, flight models, and the scenery is incredible. Manganese toxicity is a known problem in metal refining and manganese ore production. Whole blood concentrations of manganese are significantly raised during pregnancy and show an average three-fold increase in the neonate. For whole blood, where the normal concentrations are about ten-fold higher than in serum, the manganese contamination from metal needles is proportionally less significant and so no special precautions are necessary in sampling. We recommend whole blood samples for assessment of manganese status and long-term occupational exposure. 45 During iron deficiency, manganese absorption is increased and so this should be considered in hypermanganesaemic patients. 44 Tissue manganese concentrations are elevated in long-term TPN patients 19 and this has prompted the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) to update their guidelines to indicate that manganese is not supplemented in cholestatic patients. Manganese toxicity can also develop in patients with portosystemic shunts that may ultimately warrant chelation treatment. Brain abnormalities are also visible on magnetic resonance imaging. Its excretion is via the liver into bile and so in some TPN patients, especially those with obstructive liver disease, blood concentrations can increase resulting in tremor and Parkinson's Disease-like symptoms. Deficiency is very rare and blood measurement is usually performed to investigate possible toxicity. It is found in the diet in grains, nuts and tea.
